On day two of the SGAM, I rolled up my characters and decided on the initial setup for the campaign. It was during this time that I would use my house ruled 1st edition AD&D instead of Risus. Don’t get me wrong, I love Risus, and it will always be my go-to system, but I figure AD&D will be a little more suited to campaign play. I will go into a little more detail down the road on the specifics of my house rules.
I asked Mythic a few questions about the setup. (Mythic Questions and other game mechanics will be quoted from here on out to separate it from the narrative.)
Solo character or party? Solo.
Does the character begin at Meham Stronghold [Somewhat Likely]? Definitely not. Random event “Pursue Spiritual.” The main action will begin at or around the Silver Circle Temple.
Does the action begin at Wystead (small village to the south of the temple)? Definitely not.
How does the campaign start? “Attain News.”
The main character will begin the campaign within walking distance of the temple. He has heard rumors about the order (more on this later), and is hoping to gather information.
Using UNE, I came up with the main character for this portion of the story (I’ve played too many games to know to trust that my first starting character will last the whole campaign. But that’s one of the things I like about AD&D as opposed to Risus.)
I came up with a “Meek Artisan” with the motives “Abduct Lust, Achieve the Wealthy, and Drive Resources.” I decided that Bertum is a humble blacksmith who hopes to improve the export business of the Meham Valley to improve the economy. The wealth is for those around him, not for himself necessarily. I’m still not sure what to do with the “Abduct Lust” motive. But that’s the great thing about solo RPGs: you can set something aside until it comes into play, you don’t need to know every single detail before you start.
That was all for the short session. I’m a little behind on posting, but I hope to have a more regular schedule next week and beyond.
